چکیده

Hyperinflation or atelectasis of a lung or one of its lobes is generally due to partial or complete bronchial obstruction. Intramural large airway obstructive lesions or cysts are uncommon in the pediatric age group. They are usually discovered in the supraglottic or glottic areas. Primary pulmonary, tracheal, or bronchial tumors are very unusual in children. In this report, we describe an infant with an endobronchial chondromatous hamartoma obstructing the right main bronchus. This infant presented with cough, wheezing, and unilateral hyperinflation of the right lung. The patient’s symptoms improved after endoscopic resection of the endobronchial lesion.

The challenge of pulmonary endobronchial chondromatous hamartomas.

Pulmonary chondromatous (or chondroid) hamartomas are common benign tumours of the lung and may be either parenchymal or endobronchial. The latter are only rarely encountered and have a variation in their clinical presentation related to the endobronchial obstructive lesion, including atelectasis, pneumonia, hemoptysis. If not diagnosed early and treated properly, endobronchial hamartomas can c...

A case of endobronchial polyp mimicking congenital lobar emphysema in an infant

Background: Congenital lobar emphysema, also called infantile lobar emphysema, is a respiratory disease that occurs in infants when air enters the lungs and cannot leave easily. It results from cartilage deficiency and bronchomalacia causing distal air trapping and respiratory distress. In this study, we present a case of endobronchial polyp mimicking congenital lobar emphysema. Case presentati...

Chondromatous hamartoma of the lung.

Chondromatous hamartoma of the lung is a pulmonary "tumour" which, as a result of the progress made in thoracic surgery during the last decade, is now being reported as not particularly uncommon. Since a lack of familiarity with this tumour may give rise to clinical as well as to pathological errors, it seems justified to describe it in some detail. At the same time we will report our experienc...

Radiological Findings of Giant Pulmonary Chondromatous Hamartoma: Case Report

matous or leiomyomatous, are the most common benign tumors of the lung. However, multiple pulmonary chondromatous hamartomas are rare with less than 20 cases having been previously reported (1). These lesions have also been known to coexist with certain other diseases. The majority of such tumors are small and solitary (2). We present a case of a giant pulmonary chondromatous hamartoma with mul...

Videothoracoscopic identification of chondromatous hamartoma of the lung

INTRODUCTION The main disadvantage of a videothoracoscopic procedure is the lack of touch sensation. The probability of easily finding the lesion is usually estimated according to computed tomography (CT). AIM To find useful parameters of location of chondromatous hamartoma of the lung parenchyma in relation to its size to assess the probability of successful search via a videothoracoscopic a...
